Friendship-West Baptist Church’s Center for Gender Justice Hosts Lecture Series to Advocate for the Well-Being of Women and Girls
DALLAS – In honor of Women’s History Month, a dedicated time to commemorate, celebrate, and explore the vital role of women in world history, the Broughton-Wells Center for Gender Justice (BWCGJ) at Friendship-West Baptist Church is hosting its annual lecture series featuring Rev. Dr. Yolanda Pierce, Dean of the School of Divinity at Howard University, Washington, D.C.; Rev. Dr. Irie Lynn Session, co-pastor of the Gathering, A Womanist Church; and Dr. Stacie McCormick, D’Andra Willis, and Qiana Arnold of The Afiya Center, to discuss the contributions of women to society and the importance of gender equality. They will also discuss and provide resources for the physical and mental health of Black women.
The BWCGJ is a collective of individuals dedicated to pursuing gender equity and the holistic well-being of women and girls globally and locally. The BWCGJ is dedicated to transgenerational growth and development of future leaders, activism, advocacy, action, and creating a dynamic learning community where women and girls can thrive.
“March gives us an opportunity to be intentional about recognizing women’s contributions to the global society, and to deal with the challenges and inequities faced by women to organize efforts to dismantle social structures that inflict physical and structural violence against women and girls. The BWCGJ is dedicated to addressing the needs of women and girls year-round,” said Rev. Danielle Ayers, Pastor of Justice, Friendship-West Baptist Church. “The church is place where justice, peace, love, liberation, and healing can be lived out.”
The theme for the month of March is “The Gift of Black Women: Promoting Hope, Providing Healing.” The lecture series will be held virtually and is open to the public. The virtual event will be streamed live on Friendship-West’s online platforms including the church website, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
