The owner of Tarpley Dispute Resolutions, Joan Tarpley hails from Dallas and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. A graduate of Dillard University, she studied law at SMU after serving in the Peace Corps. Considered a legend, she is the first African American woman to practice law in Dallas County, first African American judge to serve as a County Court at Law Judge in Dallas and first African American Woman to be appointed as a District Judge in Dallas County. A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she is a past president of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter. Joan Tarpley is definitely one for the history books!
