Walker Harris

Walker Harris comes into the 2024 season as the unquestioned starting quarterback for MEAC pre-season favorite North Carolina Central.

And he wouldn’t have it any other way, even after two years of waiting his turn behind Davius Richard, now playing in the UFL.

“In this generation, the transfer portal is the easy way out,” Harris told Chris Clark of WNCN CBS 17 of Goldsboro. “Coming out of high school, Central was the only college that gave me an opportunity, so this school and this program means a lot to me.”

Harris, a North Carolina native, is not an inexperienced quarterback by any means – he started the Circle City Classic last season for the Eagles and threw five touchdowns passes in a 45-3 romp over Mississippi Valley State. In three seasons, Harris has seen action in 28 games overall, completing 60 of 97 passes for 581 yards with no interceptions.

“I felt like I owed it to the team to stick it out, be the best player I can be and when my time comes, put in work,” he said.

Harris’ debut as the main man will take place Sunday Sept. 1 in Miami Gardens, Florida as Central takes on SWAC East favorite Alabama State in the Orange Blossom Classic, to be televised live on ESPN.
