Joe Edd. Booker was born on December 23, 1938, in Ben Franklin, Texas, to Hettie Louise Hall and Nathaniel (NMI) Booker Sr. He was the cherished middle child in a large family, surrounded by eight brothers and one sister, all of whom grew up in a home filled with love and faith.

A man of warmth and intellect, Joe had a remarkable ability to touch the hearts of those around him. His genuine spirit and insightful conversations left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path. Whether discussing life’s profound questions, sharing his faith, or marveling at the wonders of the world, Joe’s words were imbued with wisdom and a deep understanding of the human experience. His unwavering faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in all that he did.

Joe’s earthly journey concluded on the evening of October 31, 2024, when God called him home. He embraced this call with peace and grace, leaving behind a legacy rich with knowledge, love, and cherished memories. While his family and friends will miss him dearly, they find solace in knowing that Joe is now under the watchful care of the Almighty, where love knows no bounds.

A proud graduate of Gibbons High School in Paris, Texas, Class of 1956, Joe then attended Prairie View University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Joe made remarkable contributions to the architectural and engineering fields, collaborating with major names in aerospace such as Boeing Airlines, Hughes Aircraft, and McDonnell Douglas. He played a pivotal role in shaping the space industry, contributing significantly to the development of the Space Shuttle, including its design and the robotic arm used for various space missions. Joe’s expertise also extended to commercial aviation, and he even obtained his Real Estate License.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Joe proudly served as a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. His service was marked by dedication, earning a Good Conduct Medal and recognition as a sharpshooter.

On April 20, 1963, Joe married his beloved college sweetheart, Nanette Joan Burch. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two wonderful sons, Barry Kyle Booker, Sr. and Rodney Elton Booker. Joe’s devotion to his family shone brightly in every aspect of his life; he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who took immense pride in his role.

Joe exemplified strength and resilience, having valiantly fought prostate cancer for eight years. His battle was a testament to the power of faith and determination, inspiring those around him.

Joe leaves behind a legacy cherished by many: his two sons, Barry Kyle Booker, Sr. (LaShon) and Rodney Elton Booker; two grandsons, Barry Kyle Booker, Jr. and Sir Rodney Elton Booker; his brothers, David Wayne Booker and Jimmy Booker; his sister, Doris Booker; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
