The world became a brighter place on November 7th, 1978, when Dennis L. Williams Jr. was born. He was the oldest son of 13 siblings. Even though they lived worlds apart, Dennis ensured the distance didn’t break their bond.
As a young boy, he was always finding something to get into. He was fearless and not afraid to experience life. His mischievous nature and curiosity kept his grandparents on their toes. Imagine his grandfather’s surprise when he found Dennis (a toddler at the time) on the back of his tow truck after he reached his destination.
During his teen years, Dennis attended Wilmer Hutchins High School. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for playing dominoes and continued his love of basketball and bowling. He also developed a strong bond with his classmates. Dennis graduated in May of 1997 and later became the spokesman for his class.
Three years later, he met the love of his life, his soul mate, and lifelong companion Kimberly Smith. After a whirlwind romance, on August 12, 2006, the beautiful Kimberly Smith became Kimberly Williams. These two love birds enjoyed raising their fur babies, trying new restaurants, and traveling to exotic destinations.
Dennis was a friend and confidant. He was authentic. In an ever-changing world, you could count on him to be consistent and to leave you with a smile. Dennis was fun-loving, full of jokes and the life of the party. He could lighten the mood in any situation. He had a heart of gold and a giving spirit. He truly believed in giving back and being part of something bigger than himself. He was a Big Brother and coached little league basketball.
Dennis continued to serve his Wilmer-Hutchins community in various ways. Moreover, he established the “Hutch” annual alumni picnic at Campbell Park in Hutchins, Texas.
He loved God and gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was active in the church where he held many positions including singing in the choir and ministering. In 2006, he delivered his first sermon entitled What Kind of God We Serve. His message was, “we serve a God that will direct your path when you trust him, and we serve a God that loves us beyond our understanding.” He truly believed that falling in love with Jesus was the best thing he had ever done. Dennis had a helping spirit and leaves behind a legacy of love.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents (Fred & Delois Carter) and sister (Assata Jones).
He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Smith-Williams; grandparents, John and Lorless Brown; mother, Sondra McCoy; father, Dennis Williams Sr.; siblings, Nicole Brown, Atiya McCoy, Jihad Jones, Aminah Jones, Amira Jones, Afrah Jones, Khadir Jones, Shaniece Williams, Briana Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
