Alice Sowels

February 20, 1931 ~ February 5, 2023

Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, confidant, and a submissive, obedient servant of God. Alice Lindsey was born February 20, 1931, in Reagor Springs, TX. to the parentage of Jack and Josephine Johnson-Lindsey.  Alice accepted Christ at an early age. Alice attended Waxahachie Public Schools. At the time of her death Alice was a faithful member of Taylor Memorial Total Man Ministry, Corsicana, Texas under the leadership of Rev. Willie Horn. Alice married Edd Dyer (deceased). Edd was in the military.  Alice and Edd lived in Belton, TX., Fort Benning, GA. and Corpus Christi, TX. Later in life Alice married Anderson Sowels (deceased) and she moved to Corsicana, TX. Alice and her sisters loved to wear matching outfits. The Lindsey sisters always got a lot of attention, it was seven of them, wearing their matching outfits.  People always thought they were a gospel singing group. During her younger years, the sisters and some of the nieces and nephews travelled yearly to the COGIC Memphis Convention. Alice’s greatest pleasure and pride were her children and their accomplishments. She always wanted her son Arthur Lee to sing to her, and baby son Larry Lanar would always pray with her and take lots of pictures. Alice had a special bond with her daughter, Linda Ann, her granddaughter Reeshemah and her great-grandson Zachary. Linda, Reeshemah and Alice talked every day. Alice was happiest when friends and family were around.  She never wanted anyone to leave. She would always say “please stay” and then begin to cry. Alice worked for the Schoellkopf family for many years.  The Schoellkopf’s were her employer, her friend and her second family. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Lindsey, and Josephine Alexander, five sisters, Willie Helen, Farine Punch, Gertha Davis, Bertha Howard, and Annie Mayo, two brothers, L.C. and Ben Lindsey. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Linda Dyer-Goodson of Ovilla, TX, two sons, Arthur Dyer (Robyn) of McKinney, TX and Larry Dyer of Frisco, TX., three sisters, Pauline Davis of Corsicana, TX., Ida Jackson of Ft. Worth, TX., and Shervon Vaughn of Phoenix, AZ., special granddaughter, Reeshemah Goodson of Glenn Heights, TX. and a very special great-grandson, Zachary Goodson of Glenn Heights, TX., eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
