Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck will award $1000 each to Dallas-Fort Worth area teachers to help cover classroom expenses on Friday, September 23, 2022.  Teachers from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex were nominated by the community through a contest called “Teacher Turn Up” during the month of September. Sponsored by Witherite Law Group and I-800-TruckWreck, teachers were nominated via online submission at myk104.com and two teachers were selected every Tuesday in September and awarded $1000 each, particularly exceptional teachers and those with specific classroom needs.

On Friday, September 23, attorneys from Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck will surprise this week’s winners in person with a $1000 check.

Please see the list/schedule below:

Teacher Name:  Coach D.Q. Piolet

School: North Dallas High School

Address: 3120 N. Haskell Ave., Dallas, TX 75204

School Visit Time: 7:45 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Coach Piolet is an Algebra II teacher and coach who goes and beyond his students. He wakes up before 6 am every day to take the train to work to arrive early to give his students the best learning opportunity. Coach Piolet was voted as the first “Teacher of the Week” this school year by the students at his school. His students had some of the highest Dallas ISD district testing scores and he continues to strive to improve on that.

Witherite Law Group will surprise Coach Piolet with a big check presentation at the school’s weekly pep rally in front of 900 students. Witherite Law Group will also restock the school with supplies most requested and needed by all its teachers.

Mrs. Mayes-Buchanan is known for always finding new ideas to keep her students engaged and excited about learning.  She founded a concept called “Green Space” on her campus, a place where students can go in the classroom when they are feeling extreme anxiety, so they can gather themselves and calm down. The “Green Space” is equipped with white noise, soft squishy teddy bears, a plush artificial grass rug and headphones. Mrs. Mayes-Buchanan funded this, and many other students supplies out of her own pockets. Mrs. Mayes-Buchanan has been teaching for 15 years and many of her former students come back from college to thank her for the educational foundation she laid for them.

Witherite Law Group will surprise Mrs. Mayes-Buchanan in her classroom with a big check presentation. Witherite Law Group will also restock the teacher’s lounge for all the educators at Henrie Elementary.

“As the daughter of an educator, I value teachers and education. I saw firsthand the challenges they face and the sacrifices they make to teach our future leaders. We want to ensure DFW area teachers have the resources they need to create innovative programs and learning opportunities for their students,” said Amy Witherite, founder of Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck.

The “Teacher Turn Up” campaign will run through the end of September, recognizing ten teachers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and awarding a total of $10,000 for classroom funding needs. Nominations can be made through September 27, 2022, at myk104.com.
