At the 40th Anniversary Celebration for Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas, leaders from Walmart were presented with the local workforce board’s “2024 Large Employer of the Year” Award. The award recognizes employers collaborating with the local workforce system, supporting initiatives and efforts that enhance community resources and provide the skills vital for Dallas County residents to compete for jobs and foster career growth. At the ceremony, Workforce Solutions leaders recognize the retail leader’s commitment to the region. “Walmart has made significant investments in their presence in Dallas, and have brought numerous high-quality employment opportunities for our residents,” said Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas Senior Innovation Manager Lynn Hoffman.
“With the company’s commitment to upskilling and continued investment in innovative, new facilities, it was an easy choice to present Walmart with this year’s award.” Earlier this year, Walmart officially opened its brand-new, high-tech perishable distribution center in Lancaster, Texas. The 730,000-square-foot facility receives and processes fresh produce and a variety of other perishable goods, with state-of-the-art technology that will allow the retailer to process more than double the volume of a traditional distribution center.
In addition, the facility is home to more than 500 associates who fill a variety of tech-focused positions such as Automation Equipment Operator. According to Walmart leaders, creating opportunities for employment in new and exciting fields is critical to making positive changes for the community. “We’re proud to create new opportunities for our associates, equipping them with the skills to manage the advanced robotics technology transforming our business,” said Ervin Goad, General Manager of the new Lancaster facility.
“Associates at the Lancaster facility will play a pivotal role in making sure our customers have the items they want when they want them, and we are honored that Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas would recognize our hardworking team with this award.”
