Rowlett, TX– The Rowlett Police Department is proud to announce a significant reduction in crimerates throughout 2024, alongside a notable increase in proactive policing efforts. Datacomparisons to previous years show substantial declines in major crime categories, reinforcingthe department’s ongoing commitment to public safety and community engagement.
Crime Reduction Highlights
The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) classifies “Part 1 Crimes” as Homicide, Rape, Robbery,Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Larceny, and Motor Vehicle Theft. These major crimes are measured per 1,000 residents to provide a clear assessment of crime trends. Using the population estimate (66,813 residents), Rowlett saw a significant drop in its crime rate in 2024 vs. 2023:
Decreases for 2024 compared to 2023 Year-to-Date 2023 Part 1 Rate: 16.07 per 1,000 residents 2024 Part 1 Crimes: 15.15 per 1,000 residents Total Reduction: -5.8% decrease in major crimes compared to the previous year 10-year total reduction compared to the previous decade (2014–2024): -6.1%.
Violent and Property Crime Reduction: 2024 vs. 2023 Crime data shows that violent crime and property crime both decreased across nearly all categories, with only a slight 1% increase in larceny/theft.

Officers conducted 20% more neighborhood patrols in 2024 than in 2023. Additionally, officers conducted 23% more officer-initiated activity,increasing police presence in key areas, improving response times, and building stronger relationships with residents.
