Mayor Muns, Plano ISD Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams and community supporters will encourage businesses to sign up by April 1 for invaluable initiative that provides high school students with paid jobs at top companies and nonprofits
WHAT: Celebrating a decade of preparing the future workforce for success, Plano Mayor John Muns and community leaders will gather to kick off the 10th-annual Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. at Plano ISD’s Academy High School. Check-in opens at 10:30 a.m.
Presented by Capital One, the program connects students from Plano’s award-winning and nationally recognized school district with some of the area’s top corporations and nonprofits. The eight-week paid internship program – offering remote and on-site placements, or a combination of both – runs June 12-Aug. 4 (although some start dates are flexible). Students earn a minimum of $12 per hour working 20-40 hours per week.
Please let me know if you plan to attend.
Since the program launched in 2014, approximately 780 students have received summer employment. Additionally, thousands of students have benefited from the internship prep training provided prior to the Job Fair each year.
Mayor Muns seeks to recruit new companies – from small and mid-sized organizations to large corporations – so that more motivated teens will have a chance at this life-changing experience.
Recruitment for businesses to sign up is underway through April 1. (The deadline for students to apply is March 6.)
Businesses can participate in several ways – by sponsoring an intern at their workplace, underwriting an intern at a nonprofit or government agency or becoming a program sponsor. Learn more and sign up at planomayorsinterns.org.
WHEN: Tuesday (Feb. 7, 2023) at 11 a.m. Check-in opens at 10:30 a.m.
WHERE: Plano ISD Academy High School, 1701 Alma Dr, Plano, TX 75075. Please park on the east side of the building. Bring a photo ID for check in at the front desk. The event will be held on the third level.
WHO: Plano Mayor John Muns will be joined by Plano ISD Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams, 2022 intern alums and Academy High School students Emily Vo and Christopher Newton, Academy High School Principal Catherine Gaschen, and representatives from Capital One and JPMorgan Chase.
