Leland Burk Announces City Council Campaign

A lifelong resident of the district, Burk has the budget experience we need to protect taxpayers and city services during tough, COVID budgets ahead.

Today [January 7th], businessman and volunteer leader Leland Burk announced his campaign for Dallas City Council District 13. Due to term limits, the current councilmember, Jennifer Staubach Gates, cannot run for re-election.

“For the past eight years, our community has been well-served at City Hall but in May 2021 we will elect a new leader. As a lifelong resident of this community, a proven businessman who has led my own business through tough economic times, and as a committed civic leader–I’m prepared to continue a legacy of strong leadership from our community,” said Leland Burk.

An expert in business and finance, Leland Burk has led successful businesses for three decades. As a volunteer leader, he’s served on the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Foundation Board of Trustees, the Dallas Opera Board of Directors, the Dallas Museum of Art Board of Trustees, and the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation Board of Directors.

In addition, he’s been a key ally of Councilwoman Gates, serving as her appointee to the Arts & Culture Advisory Commission and serving at her request on the Northwest Highway and Preston Road Area Plan Advisory Task Force.

Businesswoman and philanthropist Lindsay Billingsley will serve as Campaign Treasurer for the Friends of Leland Burk campaign.

“As we recover from COVID, our City needs leaders like Leland who have shepherded their own businesses through tough economies. He has a head for business and a heart for service. I know that Leland will be an exceptional leader for our community, and our City,” Lindsay Billingsley said.

The Leland Burk for City Council campaign is already endorsed by recognized names in North Dallas, including Hon. John Carona, Hon. Mitchell Rasansky, Bobby Abtahi, Lynn McBee, Mike Ablon, Bennett Glazer, John Levy, Jennifer Eagle, Carol Aaron, and Charlie Terrell.
