Jadakiss, his father, and son are launching a coffee brand that’s 40 years in the making.

Coffee is what keeps people going, and it’s going well for many Black-owned coffee connoisseurs. Founded by two men, BLK & Bold is the first Black-owned, nationally distributed coffee brand that has secured a partnership with the NBA and major retailers like Amazon and Whole Foods. There’s also Margaret Nyamumbo whose coffee brand, Kahawa 1893, made history as the first Black woman-owned coffee brand to be sold at Trader Joe’s. We even have Black women in the most popular coffee shop, Starbucks! In 2017, Rosalind Brewer was appointed as the company’s group president and chief operating officer. In 2018, Mellody Hobson was named the new vice chair of the company.

Rapper Jadakiss took to Instagram to announce his new coffee and to tell us it’s a family affair! Standing alongside his father Bob Phillips, also known as The Commander, and his son Jaewon Phillips, Jadakiss’ Kiss Café, is officially here. Their first product is a medium roast Arabica blend called Beijo, meaning kiss in Portuguese. Their mission is to be “appealing to the ever-evolving community of coffee lovers.” According to the owners, Kiss Café delivers the market’s freshest and most flavorful blends and coffee-based products.

Jadakiss spoke on the brand saying, “This coffee is for all coffee lovers. No specific age or background or knowledge. Coffee is a universal and a personal thing. Everyone enjoys it differently. And, we’re here to help them do that.”

Kiss Café has been 40 years in the making, with Bob Phillips working within the coffee industry since 1977. He’s spent over 20 years as CEO of Caturra Corp., an importing and trading firm for international green coffees. Philips has been completely vested in starting up his own business, and what better way to start than with his family? The Commander’s knowledge about coffee will be known for generations, starting with his son Jason Phillips, widely known as Jadakiss, and his grandson Jaewon.

Jaewon added, “Kiss Café is authentic. It’s real. No gimmicks. It’s been in our family for well over 40 years and everything we do here is from the core.”

Not only is the packaging supposed to stimulate all five senses, but the logo also pays homage to the three generations, featuring three coffee beans to represent each individual, as well as family, heritage, and tradition. Kiss Café plans to expand into retail and experimental partnerships very soon.
