The Dallas County Commissioner’s Court is pleased and eager to announce the Grand Opening of its newest public facility. The South Dallas Government (SDGC) Center was designed and erected with the art, history, culture of the South Dallas community in mind. The general public is invited to come and share on this momentous occasion.
This 12-acre campus is situated at the corners of West Wheatland Road and Polk Street and is bounded by Interstate 20. The campus has two main structures.
The 73,000 square foot facility on the north end houses the Justice of the Peace Courts and Constable’s office in District One, the Dallas County Sheriff Patrol, the Dallas County Tax office, and Dallas County Veterans Services. The southern end of the campus is the new home of the Dallas County Training Academy and has 11,000 square feet.
The SDGC is significant for several reasons. First, the SDGC represents Dallas County’s first new construction in the Southern Sector in more than 50 years. Secondly, the well-placed artifacts and exhibits pay tribute to Court officials and Law Enforcement officers who made history by being the “firsts” in Dallas County. We have also partnered with the Dallas Public Library to showcase photographs that depict the lives and challenges of Black people in this city and county.
Dallas County Commissioner Price, the County Judge and the Commissioner’s Court will all be in attendance. Please get in touch with 214.653.6671 for questions or additional information.
