Special to Texas Metro News

On July 19, 1934, the Good Street Baptist Church was organized out of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist church. Dr. T.M. Chambers was the first pastor under the new name and served for 14 years.

On Sunday morning, December 26, 1946, the day after Christmas, the entire church (located on Good Latimer) was burned to the ground. a new building was erected on the same site and held its first service on May 23, 1948.

On September 10, 1950, Reverend Caesar Arthur Walter Clark began his pastorate, a young man with a vision and great preaching ability. under Dr. Clark’s leadership, the C.A.W. Clark community center was opened, the Good Street Baptist Church Credit Union was started, and the Good Street Legal clinic was founded. On Sunday morning, May 3, 1970, the Good Street Baptist Church membership march into the “new church” at 3110 Bonnie View Road.

On July 27, 2008, at the age of 93 the lord called Pastor C.A.W. Clark home and The Reverend Ronald Anglin served as our interim pastor until 2012.

The Church will be celebrating its 90th church anniversary during the month of july under the leadership of our pastor the Reverend Eddie L. Jenkins. The theme for our celebration is “separated and sifted for service” (Luke 22: 31a, 32b).

Rev. Eddie L. Jenkins was called to pastor the Good Street Baptist Church, in June of 2012, with a mission for the church to shine as lights in darkness by evangelizing  (reaching) the sinner, educating (teaching) the saints, and exalting (praising) our saviour Jesus Christ; being empowered  by the holy spirit to love, learn, and live by faith in god’s word, which has power to change lives, both locally and around the world.

We are the church with a heart, building families, one life at a time.

During our month of celebration, we will have guest preachers, guest soloists, special youth performances, a scholarship presentation(s), informational handouts, food, and fellowship.

Please come join us for a hallelujah good time as we praise and thank God for his faithfulness and blessings lift the name of Jesus, and fellowship with one another!
