Former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is now joining CNN as a political commentator

Former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is now joining CNN as a political commentator, 11 Alive reports. 

Bottoms was elected to the mayoral office in 2018, completing her term in 2022 after announcing she would not be running for a second term. While a favorite among her constituents, Bottoms felt she had run her course and accomplished everything she set out to do in office, despite the city constantly being in the national spotlight for several challenges while navigating a global pandemic. 

Now, the former politician will be joining CNN, taking to social media to officially announce her first role post mayor. 

“I am thrilled to officially announce that I have joined CNN as a Political Commentator. As a @FAMU_1887 student, I applied for the coveted VJ program at CNN and didn’t get in. To now join the team nearly 30 yrs later is a reminder that a dream deferred is never a dream denied,” Bottoms wrote.

In addition to her new role at CNN, Bottoms also serves as Vice Chair of Civic Engagement and Voter Protection for the Democratic National Committee and was named an honorary HBCU Executive Leadership Institute fellow at Clark Atlanta University in June of 2021. She maintained both positions while serving as mayor. 

No word yet on when Bottoms will hit the CNN airwaves, but we will be tuning in!
