Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas donates $220K to Two Dallas Elementary Schools

From Staff Reports

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) has donated $220,000 to two elementary schools in the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) – $110,000 each to Annie Webb Blanton Elementary in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas, Texas, and Umphrey Lee Elementary School in the South Oak Cliff area. The donations were celebrated with ceremonial check presentations at the schools.

Funds for Umphrey Lee Elementary School will be used for playground equipment and beautification, training lunches and support for teachers, technology, classroom furniture and supplies, field trips, gym equipment and more.

“We are so grateful for this donation,” said Yolanda Knight, principal of Umphrey Lee Elementary School. “Creating an ideal learning environment and having the supplies we need takes a village, and we are glad FHLB Dallas is a part of these efforts.”

Funds for Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School will be used for training lunches and support for teachers, technology, uniforms, field trips, furniture, school supplies, books, professional development and more.

“This funding is so important for our kids,” said Alicia Iwasko, principal of Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School. “Many of our students have economic challenges, and the investment in our technology, school supplies and field trips are a huge boost for us. We are grateful for FHLB Dallas in supporting our mission to educate all students for success.”

Supporting underserved student populations is part of FHLB Dallas’ core giving philosophy. The bank has had a longtime partnership with the Irving Schools Foundation and expanding that support to Dallas schools is the next progression, said Bre Chapman, executive vice president at FHLB Dallas.

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas has partnered with two Dallas ISD elementary schools — Umphrey Lee and Annie Webb Blanton Elementary Schools. It provided a total of $220,000 — $110,000 to each school — for their most critical needs.

“These partnerships in support of underserved student populations resonate deeply with our mission and values. Both schools have an exemplary track record of setting up students for academic success,” Ms. Chapman said. “It’s truly gratifying to offer our support to Dallas kids and teachers.”

In addition to monetary support, FHLB Dallas will support the two schools in other ways, such as participating in Career Days, reading programs, school supply drives and other support.

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas is one of 11 district banks in the FHLBank System created by Congress in 1932. FHLB Dallas, with total assets of $128.3 billion as of December 31, 2023, is a member-owned cooperative that supports housing and community development by providing competitively priced loans and other credit products to approximately 800 members and associated institutions in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas.
