DPD Chief Eddie Garcia Briefing With Caruth Police Institute At UNT Dallas

On Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the UNT Dallas Campus, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia and CPI Executive Director B.J. Wagner shared an update on the training, which began rolling out in March. Speakers were UNT-Dallas President Bob Mong, Assistant City Manager Jon Fortune, Denton Police Chief Frank Dixon, and DPD Detective Raquel Oliver has undergone the training.

Dallas Police Department becomes first major-city police department in Texas to embrace peer-intervention Training Program that provides officers with practical strategies and skill to help reduce mistakes.

In January, the Dallas City Council approved $300,000 for the Caruth Police Institute (CPI) at the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) to bring Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) training to the Dallas Police Department. Widely supported and nationally recognized the evidence-based, peer-intervention program provides practical skills and tactics to law-enforcement officers to prevent misconduct, reduce officer mistakes and promote health and wellness.
