Congresswoman Johnson Introduces Resolution Honoring the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson introduced H.Res. 1263, a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.

“It is an honor to recognize and pay tribute to such a brilliant collection of expert scholars at the Joint Center. For the last five decades, they have provided critical insight into issues that affect African Americans with a cultural sensitivity and understanding that comes from knowing our community,” said Congresswoman Johnson. “The Joint Center continues to help me and many of my Congressional Black Caucus colleagues make informed decisions for sound policy.”

“We are so grateful to Chairwoman Johnson for passing a resolution honoring the Joint Center’s 50th anniversary,” added Joint Center President Spencer Overton. “The recognition is particularly meaningful in light of Chairwoman Johnson’s leadership on key technology equity issues that are critical to the future of Black communities and our nation. We look forward to continuing our work as America’s Black think tank in partnership with Chairwoman Johnson, the Congressional Black Caucus, and other Members of Congress who are committed to dismantling systemic inequality and expanding opportunity.”

Founded and chartered in 1970 as the first of its kind, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies has since served as America’s chief Black think tank inside the beltway. Though diverse in their research and advocacy, the Joint Center has remained a consistent presence in the application and advancement of empirical-based policies supporting strategies to advance Black America.
