Congresswoman Johnson Announces $1.3 Million to Dallas County for the Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America Program

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announces that the Dallas County Health and Human Services Department has been awarded $1,357,181 from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services for the Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America program. This funding supports HIV-related health services through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program and enables communities to implement effective and innovative strategies, interventions, approaches, and services to reduce new HIV infections. This ten-year initiative aims to achieve the important goal of reducing new HIV infections to less than 3,000 per year by 2030, as this level would essentially mean that HIV transmissions would be rare and meet the definition of ending the epidemic.

“This funding will support critical work in our Dallas communities to reduce new HIV infections, and I am proud to advocate for patients and their families to have the medical and community resources they need,” said Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. “Also, I must acknowledge the disproportionate impact that HIV/AIDS has on our African-American community.

In 2018, African Americans accounted for 13% of the US population but 42% of the new HIV diagnoses in the United States.

As leaders, we must never cease in our commitment to continue to fight this disease.”

Congresswoman Johnson Announces $256K in Federal Funding for Parkland Health & Hospital System

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson announces that the Parkland Health & Hospital System has been awarded $256,790 from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services through their Health Center Cluster Grant. This funding will be critical in supporting Parkland in their work to improve the health of underserved communities and vulnerable populations by assuring continued access to comprehensive, culturally-competent, and quality primary health services.
