“Texas’ 30th Congressional District is the proud home to Southwest Airlines, the nation’s fourth largest airline. Our community, travelers across the country, and Southwest’s workforce have been directly impacted by the company’s recent travel disruptions, flight cancellations, and major communicative issues. The federal government must take immediate action.
“Southwest Airlines is a vital employer and innovator in our city and across the nation, and represents the fabric of our great state. As thousands of passengers have experienced last minute cancellations, delays, and have even been stranded in airports without access to food and water, it is unacceptable that Southwest has not been sufficiently communicative and transparent with travelers and staff. At this time, I encourage Southwest to collaborate with other major airlines to reimburse and rebook passengers who have experienced operational shortcomings and traveler difficulty and dissatisfaction.
“I stand in solidarity with Southwest’s pilots, flight attendants, gate agents, and staff who have consistently worked overtime to make travel possible for the American people in this time of dysfunction and distress. I thank them for their sacrifice and determination.
“I am grateful for Secretary Pete Buttigieg and the Department of Transportation’s efforts to rectify this situation and look forward to reviewing the results of their investigation. In Congress, I will work to provide reliable transportation and service to the people of Texas’ 30th Congressional District and beyond, and will continue to hold our transportation companies accountable in order to protect the wellbeing and safety of our community. In the coming days and weeks, I will be in communication with my constituents, and the airline and its employees to ensure the needs of travelers are met, and that Southwest’s shortcomings are addressed.”
Crockett was elected to represent Texas’ 30th Congressional District in the 118th Congress, which includes portions of Dallas and Tarrant counties.
