City of Dallas hosts Alpha Kappa Alpha 2024 Boule VIP Reception

DALLAS- The Perot Museum was full of bright pink and green as about 200 people attended a VIP reception for the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to kick off their 2024 Boule in Dallas, which convenes July 5 through 11. 

Kim Tolbert, Interim City Manager, enthusiastically greeted those in attendance, “Good evening, AKAs! Welcome, welcome to Dallas. I’m excited to be able to stand here and be a part of such incredible energy.”

Among the attendees were several local leaders including State Senator Royce and his wife Carol West, State Representative Carl Sherman, Sr., Councilman Tennell Atkins, VisitDallas CEO Craig Davis, and Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall. 

“We’re going to light the city in pink and green,” said Councilman Atkins, who was also celebrating his birthday.

He introduced AKA International President Danette Anthony Reed, who talked about the economic impact the Boule will have on Dallas.

Infinity Jazz Band performs 

“We have over 28 hotels full,” said Reed. “Our goal is to leave the city of Dallas with a $60 million impact.”

The AKAs are expected to have more than 20,000 members  in attendance with events happening all over the city. The official meetings will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
