More victims of child abuse are going to be served now, thanks to expansion of Tarrant County’s children’s advocacy center and the Alliance For Children (AFC).

“This expansion will not only accommodate Tarrant County’s rapid population growth, it will also provide more space to deliver depth to investigative and healing services, upgrades to technology to better serve victims of child abuse, and room for growing partnerships and staff,” said AFC CEO, Julie Evans, who talked about the child abuse issue in Tarrant County. “One out of 10 affected children in the country are in Texas and their (AFC) mission is to protect Tarrant County children from child abuse through teamed investigations, healing services and community education.”

The original facility, located at 1320 W. Abram St., will benefit significantly from the expansion as well as the growth and development of current programs, resulting from the AFC’s $15.8 million capital campaign.

Even more children need these services, AFC President Dr. Eric Herrstrom, said, “AFC will be able to serve even more with the 24,000-square-foot addition and remodel, it will enhance the service to the community.”

Herrstrom said the expansion is the first step toward extending the network of tailor-made healing and support services provided to child abuse victims and their protective families.
