No school bells or in-person classroom sessions for Dallas Independent School District (DISD) anytime soon, said Superintendent Michael Hinojosa recently during a press conference. Online learning will be in place for at least the first four weeks of the new school year.
This news came right after Judge Clay Jenkins recommended that all schools continue to be virtual to limit the spread of COVID. Jenkins said he wants DISD to keep in mind the data that shows the increase of cases.
Most of North Texas is set to start school on September 8, and the Board of Trustees will decide if students will go back in person after the first 20 days of virtual learning. Members of the Dallas Teachers Union spoke up in support of delay of the in-person classes during the last board meeting.
Another unknown is when sports teams will be able to resume strength and conditioning workouts. The original date was August 24, but now that date is up in the air.
