Natural hair care line celebrates two years with an official launch party

Since going natural in 2013, you could say LaShawn Johnson was onto something. Unhappy with product purchases to maintain her mane, soon filling up the area under her sink, she decided to create her own.

“I was creating my own products and hoping and praying that my hair didn’t fall out,” Johnson said. “I came up with a mixture of oils that felt good to me.”

The evolution of her concoction, first used on herself, then shared with her sons and their friends, found a springboard and was birthed from the cradle. Johnson shared that her grandson Sire’s severe case of cradle cap, a common skin condition on a baby’s scalp, saw swift improvement in three weeks of using her creation, to which she was encouraged to “bottle this stuff,” and she did. From there, Sires Crown was born.

An official launch party, celebrating the two-year anniversary of the company, was held on Oct. 26, 2024 at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Plano East. Many gathered for food, prizes and fun, with lots of motivation.

Johnson’s loctician, Nia Green of The Nappy Sanctuary, delivered words of encouragement from her experience and role as a hairstylist in making others feel good about themselves.

“When you leave the salon, you should be slayed both ways,” Green said. “It’s never about your hair, it’s about your spirit.”

Johnson credited Green as a motivating force, and Green returned compliments about supporting Sires Crown although she has her own line of products.

“The Nappy Sanctuary is a pour,” Green said. “It’s not transactional, it’s reciprocal.”

Several attendees in the room had locs and natural styles. They eagerly claimed door prizes, which included Sires Crown products, branded t-shirts and satin pillowcases. The line for food and drinks remained busy as the celebration continued.

As Johnson worked the room greeting guests, Green’s words of encouragement remained evident in the vibrant atmosphere.

“Now, we are not manipulating, we are celebrating the crown.”
