Lamar dreamed of a career in professional baseball after excelling at the sport in high school. But when college proved unaffordable, he briefly turned to a life of crime, which landed him in jail for bur- glary. After doing his time, Lamar turned his hobby – rapping –into something more.
In 2012, Lamar released his first project, “I Go In on Every Song.” It was the first in a string of “Go In”-themed mixtapes, the third of which yielded his breakthrough single. “Type of Way” became a hit in the summer of 2013, introducing Rich Homie Quan’s national audience to his melodic trap hip-hop. He followed it up with “Walk Thru” in 2014 and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” in 2015, reaching a solo Billboard Hot 100 chart high of No. 26 with the latter. Lamar also formed Rich Gang with his childhood friend Young Thug, releasing hits like the 2014 top-five rap favorite “Lifestyle.” In addition to his own music, Lamar made guest appearances on tracks by such artists as Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Migos, and DaBaby.
