In Loving Memory of Oliver Eugene Norwood

Miss Me, But Let Me Go –

When I come to the end of the road, And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul set free.

Miss me a little, but not too long, and not with your head bowed low,

Remember the love that we once shared – Miss me but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take, And each must go along.

It’s all a part of the Master’s Plan, A step on the road to Him.

When you grow lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know.

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me, but let me go.

Oliver Eugene Norwood was born on July 11, 1944 in Gause, TX to Johnnie and Laura (Smith) Norwood. At an early age Oliver joined New Hope Baptist Church in Rockdale and confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

There in Rockdale he went on to graduate from Aycock High School in 1962 and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) where he served as a Communications Specialist. He was Honorably discharged in May 1970. While enlisted and stationed in Hawaii, he met and married the love of his life

Katherine Mary Brignac Norwood Odrick in 1968. From this union they have one daughter, Kristina A. Norwood.

Once discharged from the USAF, Oliver chose to further his education by enrolling in The University of Texas, Arlington, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government. After college he started his civilian career working for the State of Texas in Human Services. After several well-deserved promotions, he retired from the State of Texas with the title of Administrative Director in October 1999.

Without a doubt, for many years Oliver was the Patriarch of this Norwood family. He was always available for all! He opened his heart and soul to those in need of counsel, advice, or just a listening ear with an open mind – he was there! He also opened his home, as well as his wallet, to any family member in need.

On December 3, 2022, Oliver exchanged his earthly body for a heavenly crown. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Norwood and Laura (Smith-Lawson) Norwood, one brother, O.Z.

Owens, three sisters, Annie Bell Williams, Alvelma Stanfield, and Mildred Maloy-Lee.

Oliver lives to cherish his memory, one daughter, Kristina Norwood and three grandchildren Derrion and Dominique Cyprian and Kennedi Norwood, all of New Orleans, Louisiana; two brothers,

Andrew Jefferson (A.J.) Norwood (Gurlie) of Oberlin. Louisiana. and Clifford Anthony (Tony) Norwood (Kathlyn) of San Antonio, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who loved him dearly – in particular his closest friend and “neighbor,” Freo Reagin.

A visitation for Oliver will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Singing Hills Funeral Home, 6221 UNIVERSITY HILLS BLVD, DALLAS, TX 75241. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Chandelier Room of Singing Hills, 6221 University Hills Blvd, Dallas, TX 75241. A committal service will occur Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mt. Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
